Ankie

AnkieBorn at the 10th of May 1973 in a small place called IJhorst. During my Tourism study I got introduced in traveling. From that time on I started traveling to further places. During my study of Social Work, I spend most of my free time  exploring the world. In 1998 I travelled to Africa for the first time; Zimbabwe and Botswana. These countries were very impressive. A lot of people did ask me, 'Why Africa?!' Its so hard to explane that this continent stole my heart! The people, nature, the whole atmosphere. Countries like Namibia, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda are very different, but so the same. It's a feeling... Just to be there, gives me a feeling of being home, as white as I am.. That's what Africa does to me.

In 2006 I was in Rwanda. Friends told me about 'Victor' and his orphanage. And they told me about the Baby Home that is sponsored by them. When I came back from Rwanda, were I lived for almost a week in the orphanage and spend precious moments with the babies, I knew I would be back some day..... at that time I was already involved with the Baby Home

Nowadays I live in Amsterdam with Edgar and my cat Siepie. I work with people with Special Needs and enjoy spending my time with friends and family. I love reading books, travel, and photography. What I will do during my stay at the orphanage, besides enjoying, we'll see. There are plenty things to do !

Peter

Born June 12th 1972 in Kampen, the Netherlands. After finishing highschool, I went on an exchange program to Port Huron Michigan, USA. This is where my interest for foreign countries and cultures started to form. After returning to the Netherlands, I earned my bachelor degree in Biology.  In my 4th year I did my student teaching on Curacao. Besides the teaching I also helped out at a volentary organisation which was giving awareness courses about the nature of the island and how to preserve it to the highest classes of junior high schools. During my study I have been working as an waiter and later as a cook. After finisching collega I started working in the IT busieness. First as a programmer for a company in Rotterdam and than for almost 10 years at a small automation company in my hometown Leeuwarden. At the moment I work at a datacenter as a network administrator.

Because of the experiences of Ankie I wanted to do something for the children's village Kigirama. Because of my expertise in IT the internet connection on the projectlist on the website of L'Esperance Rwanda cought my eye.

I would like, with the help of sponsors, to provide the children's village with a reliable internet connection.

At the moment I have a relation with Barbara. In my spare time I like to dive. Besides that, I collect en cultivate cacti, and like cooking, odd jobs and watching movies.

Ankie & Peter

We met in 1999 through a friend. I seemed that we had the same weird passion about RockyHorrorPictureShow and we had to know some same people. Through the years we did some spontaneous things, with our spouses. A lot of RockyHorror shows, day trip to Koln. Traveling for a week through France and Denmark. For next summer Brazil is on our list. So why not doing Rwanda together ?!

We know perfectly what to do together. When and why we are arguing about things. We are two very different characters but tried a lot of things together. One week in the same house would be a desaster, but doing this project together is one of the best idea in ages !!!
