As it always goes with spontaneous plans, before you know is just something you said a big and serious plan. Ankie already did go to Rwanda, but now Peter is joining her !
In October-November 2006 Ankie went, together with her friend, for 6 weeks to Uganda-Rwanda. It started with an organized tour for about 3 weeks through Uganda, with a short stay in Rwanda. Uganda because of its beautiful National Parks and to visit the Mountain Gorilla's. Rwanda cause the extra 4 days trip was booked easily and gives more stamps in the passport !
But as it always goes with making plans...it turned out different. The tour was booked and then there was this benefit concert for Baby's in Rwanda. It all happened in Ankie's favorite Irish pub,, Mulligans in Amsterdam.
The benefit concert was organized by a couple who just came back from their trip through Rwanda. During their travel they stayed at Victor's place. They were impressed by his strength and offered their help.
A few months later, in the beginning of 2006, the 22-year old Drocella gave birth in the hospital to twins, but died. There was no one to take care of her two son. But there was Victor. He mailed to Holland for help. That was the beginning of the Victor Monroy Trust and the beginning of the Baby Home.
It also was the start of two extra weeks of holiday. After the tour there were two weeks of going back to Rwanda, to visit Victor and 'his' orphanage and to meet the baby's. At the orphanage Victor was busy to realize a better place to life for the baby's. The whole Baby Home project just started. Victor was happy with the help of Ankie, who was happy to to be there as 'member of the Dutch group'.
Back home, the baby's, the orphanage and the cooperation with Victor kept Ankie busy. She helped with the Victor Monroy Trust and stayed in contact with Victor. Now, 2 years later, its time to go back to see what all happened.
